Airsoft Gun (Sniper Rifle tips)

Wind out of the northeast, enemy at 22 degrees north, elevation mark 3. Load round, slide bolt into place. Breathe, and remember to squeeze, not pull. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Mark. Whether your weapon of choice is the American M14 or Russian Drangunov, rest assured that posting up from on high and lining up the crosshairs on your hated enemy will never get old, provided you’re comfortable with the airsoft gun.

For a sniper, speed is the enemy, so rate of fire is irrelevant in this category. In fact, some of the most committed utilize replica bolt-action single-rounds, preferring to load them individually after each shot just like real scout-snipers. As counter-intuitive as it may seem, taking a little extra time on a heavier and slower-firing gun may improve accuracy and kill count, more than compensating for the lack of a lead curtain.

Of course, the single most important factor in for any airsoft sniper rifle is accuracy. The first and most important aspect of accuracy is less about the gun, and more about the ammunition. Heavy rounds deflect less under the stresses of aerodynamic deceleration and cross-breeze deflection. Much as in a real lead-spewing death-dealer, the heavier and more powerful the round is the more accurate it will be over a longer range, so many hard-core snipers prefer a heavier 25 gram BB to the lighter rapid-action types.

A good scope is always a priority, but fortunately almost all sniper rifles have universal mounts that allow the discriminating man-hunter to decide which suits him the best. Stay away from the cheapies with plastic lenses, they’re more for show than anything else and rarely offer any meaningful magnification. As often as not the cross-hairs on these scopes are misaligned anyway, so you’d probably be better off with nothing at all. So, choose your device but remember: slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Good hunting.
