Airsoft Activities and Gun Options

05/28/09 1601 hours

There are many different ways in which Airsoft guns are used. In order to figure out what the best Airsoft gun for you would be, you must first decide upon what you plan to use it for.

Some of the most common uses of Airsoft guns include:

1.Plinking. Plinking is when you shoot at cans and targets.  A great gun for this activity is a spring pistol since they are inexpensive and maintenance free.

2.Wars. War games occur in backyards. Herein you will want to use either an automatic electric gun or a spring shotgun. It simply depends upon how much money you want to spend here. For $40 you can get a powerful gun that fires very rapidly.

If you can put more money into an airsoft gun, then you should consider getting an AEG which is both powerful and able to fire at close to the same speed as a real assault rifle. With an AEG you can do anything that you want whenever you are in a backyard battle. However you will need to purchase a lot of BBs if you will be using an AEG because you will be using them up fast.

3.Team play. Teams can be formed to play against other teams. If you are taking your playing to this level you are going to need to spend a lot of money on a good airsoft gun and good gear. Herein you will also need to decide if you plan to be a sniper, rifleman, support gunner or grenadier. Snipers need a high quality sniper rifle with 400 FPS while riflemen need a quality AEG with a high-capacity magazine. For being a support gunner you can get an inexpensive AEG with a box magazine or put more money into a machine gun. Grenadiers need an AEG and a granade launcher with extra granades.

Mini Electrical Airsoft Guns

05/26/09 1528 hours

Mini electrical Airsoft guns are actually replicas of real guns that are found around the world. These Airsoft guns run on AAA batteries and most of the time they are fully automatic. The only difference between them and a full-size electrical Airsoft gun is that the miniature version shoots miniature sized BBs. They are still high quality guns that hold around 50 shots, can shoot a good range and are otherwise great for impromptu games.

You will find that there are many different types of miniature Airsoft guns available on the market today. Some of these include:
1.The AK47 weighs 410g making it one of the heaviest Airsoft guns in this series.
2.The G3A3 weighs around 375g, measures 300mm lengthwise and has a capacity of 80rd.
3.The M16 and the XM177 both are 300mm long, weighs 410g and has a 70rd capacity.
4.The Uzi weighs 375g, is 300mm lengthwise and has a capacity of 80rd.
5.The Aug has a capacity of 170rd, which means that it holds more than most models. It measures 300mm lengthwise and weighs 375g.

Regardless of which of these airsoft guns you choose, they all come with a 6mm BB caliber, are made from tough ABS plastic and can hold around 80 6mm BBs. You will need to have 4 AA size batteries in order to be able to operate any of these guns. They are also full automatic, meaning that all you have to do is pull the trigger in order to shoot off the BBs.

Five reasons to use airsoft guns

05/22/09 0933 hours

Here are five good reasons to use an airsoft gun:

(1) I think the name says it all—airsoft gun. The air soft gun is a fun way to have “wars” with your friends without accruing painful welts that are caused when using paintball guns. Some people may wonder, “How do you know when you are hit.” Being hit by the air soft BB is like being pinched.

(2) There is no mess. Using BBs eliminates the mess otherwise created if using paintballs. The BBs can easily be vacuumed up (if you are indoors), or reused for later games.

(3) It is easy to get a game of airsoft set up. Airsoft does not require CO2 tanks to be filled every game, paint refills, gun cleaning, gun oiling, O-ring replacement, etc. You get the point. Airsoft guns do not require the maintenance that paintball guns need, yet you can experience the full effect of being in a gun fight.

(4) Cheap. Airsoft guns are inexpensive. Of course this is assuming you do not have an expensive appetite. You can purchase a twenty dollar spring powered airsoft gun, and still be a force to reckon with out on the field. If you have the money to spend then there are guns that range to higher prices, including assault type spring powered weapons, and gas powered weapons.

(5) If you are a realist enthusiast than airsoft guns are as real as fake guns get. The airsoft gun is built to look as real as an actual lethal weapon. The gun looks so real, that there has to be orange tips at the end of the gun in order to differentiate fake from real.

Intro to Airsoft Guns

05/20/09 2138 hours

Airsoft guns are sometimes known as toy guns because they are not actually real. They are generally about 1:1 replicas of an actual firearm, and are made from a variety of materials. Generally, the material is metal or plastic. Airsoft guns propel plastic pellets that are more commonly known as BB’s, by the use of compressed air bursts or propellant. An airsoft gun may only be a toy, but the design and use of it can be a very real experience.

The airsoft gun came about in Japan in the 1970s. Real firearms were not allowed to be owned by private individuals, so many people turned to airsoft guns for a fun sport. This sport quickly became popular amongst those in China, Korea and Taiwan, as well as the Philippines. These also had firearm restrictions as well. The airsoft gun then began its journey to popularity in the United States and Europe around the middle of the 1990s.

You can now purchase three different types of airsoft guns. These are the spring-powered gun, which uses a spring that pulls the slide back and fires the pellets. A gas-powered airsoft gun use propellants to fire, such as propane or a refrigerant. Electric powered guns will use a battery to operate the shooting mechanism.

You can buy airsoft guns in many different shapes, sizes and varieties. While an airsoft gun is considered a toy, it must be used with extreme caution. The pellets may not be damaging to the skin, but they are to the eyes. When using these guns, the best protective eye gear should be worn at all times. Adult supervision is generally required in kids under 10 years of age, depending on the maturity level of the child. Airsoft guns can make a great present, or just fun to buy as a new toy.

The M4 Airsoft Rifle

05/17/09 2018 hours

If you are just beginning to play Airsoft, then you are probably in search of the perfect gun to get you started. With this in mind you should consider an M4 Airsoft rifle.

M4 Airsoft rifle replicas are generally something that almost every Airsoft player can easily recognize. This is due to the fact that these rifles are similar to what both the military and police force uses. These guns are not only great for use in close quarter combat but they also work quite well for sniping. In fact, their accuracy is better than that which you would find on the majority of low end Airsoft gun replicas.

Of course, the specs of your M4 Airsoft rifle will be dependent upon the manufacturer who makes it. One such manufacturer is Tokyo Marui. They are actually probably the most famous manufacturer because they are able to provide their customers with excellent replicas. Unfortunately though, the M4 Airsoft rifles that are made by Tokyo Marui aren’t quite as powerful as the new models that can be found on the market today. This is due to the fact that in Japan there are strict regulations on just how powerful an Airsoft gun can be.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a powerful M4 Airsoft rifle, then you should look at the Jing Gong M4 Airsoft rifle. This rifle is great for beginners because it is fairly inexpensive and yet since it does pack more power, it is able to make you look like an expert whenever you are on the battlefield.

Why Is Airsoft So Appealing…

05/14/09 1428 hours

Sitting in a high school class or college lecture Monday morning and listening to guys talk about what they did the previous weekend, one can hear reports of Halo tournaments, hot dates playing lasertag, paintballing and playing with airsoft guns. What is it about airsoft guns that make them so appealing, even perhaps more than paintballing? According to some guys, airsoft guns are as close as one can get to real war combat without fatal consequences.

Airsoft guns may seem like they have been around a while, but forty years ago, airsoft guns were not available in the United States. Airsoft guns originated in Japan during the 1970s, when private ownership of firearms was illegal. The first airsoft gun was spring-powered, and the design quickly spread throughout eastern Asia. Later, the gas and electric models were developed, and airsoft gun technology spread to the United States where their popularity shot up during the 1990s.

Although used for fun, airsoft guns actually have many practical purposes such as for training in the police force, self-defense and movie props due to their resemblance of firearms. Consequently, airsoft guns are required to have an orange tip to distinguish from firearms.

The main attractions of airsoft play is its correlation to actual war combat. When paintballing, the objective is usually to be the last one hit. In airsoft, the game tries to emulate real military strategy. Even the playing field is meant to resemble traditional war combat: players choose wooded areas to play with lots of cover, and it’s not unusual to see players in full camouflage.

While some may think that using airsoft guns for sport is just another way to waste time, this sport actually gives enthusiasts the chance to play out their video game dreams in real life with real people.

Electric Airsoft Guns

05/12/09 2154 hours

Electric Airsoft guns, which are often times better known as automatic Airsoft guns or AEGs, use electrical power from a battery to make their motor work. This motor then turns gears to compress and release the piston. In turn, the piston creates a blast of air which propels the BB. These Airsoft guns are capable of firing between 300 to 900 rounds per minute (RPM). You should also know that they have a muzzle velocity of between 200 to 400 feet per second.

These electrical Airsoft guns were created in the 1990s when Airsoft became immensely popular. During this time many people were searching for an Airsoft gun that performs better, is more efficient and is also has more powerful. This led Japan to develop the electrical Airsoft gun.

Over the course of time electrical Airsoft guns began looking more and more realistic. This is thanks to the many external modifications that have been made on them. These include such things as metal bodies and reinforced plastic, all of which helped these Airsoft guns to become even more popular.

Tokyo Marui of Japan is the most popular manufacturer of electrical Airsoft guns. One such Airsoft gun that is made by this manufacturer is the Marui AEG. It has a motor that drives 3 gears that are mounted inside of its gearbox. As such, this is also one of the most powerful Airsoft guns on the market today. There are also numerous modifications and replicas of this gun being made by other manufacturers. This company has also introduced the first electrical powered handgun that is able to produce full-automatic fire.

Airsoft Gun Safety

05/08/09 2158 hours

There are a number of benefits to purchasing an airsoft gun. Namely, they can be a lot of fun and provide a great deal of enjoyment on a number of levels. While these guns are certainly not toy guns in the conventional sense, they do have a lot of value as far as presenting many opportunities for having a gun. Of course, it is important to point out that one should not use these guns in any manner that would be considered unsafe. As such, it is also important to point out a major safety tip: do not point the gun at anyone…ever!

It is critical to point out that airsoft guns will discharge pellets at decent enough velocities that the pellet could travel upwards of 500 feet. Needless to say firing a pellet at a person who is within close range could potentially cause a serious injury. Of course, some will say they would never pull the trigger. While it may be the case the individual would never intentionally discharge the airsoft gun, accidents can occur. So, to avoid the occurrence of any such accident, always avoid pointing the gun at anyone. Actually, it would also be wise to avoid pointing the gun at yourself or in your own direction. Such horseplay can undermine the safety of using airsoft guns. That is why it is best avoided. Instead, treat the gun as if it were a real weapon. This will lead to more fun with your airsoft gun since a much needed element of safety will be returned to it.

Gas Powered Airsoft Guns

05/05/09 2118 hours

Airsoft guns are widely regarded as being near-perfect replicas of the real firearms they’re meant to emulate. Because Airsoft weapons are so perfectly manufactured to look like the real thing, they’re required to have very specific differences that are easily distinguishable from real firearms.

Airsoft guns, for the most part, work on a similar principle. A small pellet, generally 6mm in size, is propelled by either a spring-action or compressed air down the barrel of the weapon. While compressed air generally has a much higher velocity, the air cartridges must be replaced regularly. C02 is the gas of choice for those who use Airsoft weapons, since the pellets propelled by a gas cartridge can easily reach velocities of 400 to 500 meters per second. This means a far more accurate shot at significantly higher ranges.

The rate of fire on gas-fired Airsoft weapons is significantly higher, as well. Airsoft weapons that use gas cartridges are available in automatic-firing models, reaching rates of fire approaching that of normal firearms. Because gas cartridges deplete over time, it’s necessary to continually purchase new ones or have the old ones refilled at a qualified location.

Regardless of the type of Airsoft weapon that is being used, it’s important to always buy the best quality weapon that the customer can afford. High quality weapons jam less frequently, and are generally able to be used in far less idea conditions. Those Airsoft weapons that are of excellent quality are easily able to fire during fights in weather of all kinds, regardless of moisture, temperature, or the cleanliness of the area. Dirt and mud can easily foul the firing mechanism of lower-quality Airsoft guns, causing them to misfire, while more precision manufactured units suffer less.

Airsoft Accessories: Icing on the Cake

05/02/09 2143 hours

What’s a cake without icing? A bunch of crumbs, that’s what! Just as a cake needs icing to be complete, your airsoft guns needs a few accessories to provide optimal enjoyment.

The most obvious and most necessary accessory is a large supply of airsoft pellets or bb’s. These come in a variety of colors and materials, but if you are planning on taking your game to the great outdoors–and who isn’t?–you may want to consider the greener option of biodegradable airsoft bb’s. For the less environmentally conscious, there are traditional airsoft bb’s in your choice of packaging, including speed bottles for fast loading as well as seamless packages.

Another must have accessory is an extra magazine. While it can take a long time to load hundreds of bb’s into a magazine, popping on a preloaded extra magazine takes just seconds. If you lack the patience to load the bb’s by hand, a speed loader can make the process fast and simple.

If you need to improve your accuracy, there is a wide range of airsoft accessories to help you. You can buy a laser sight that mounts on your gun to hep you see where you are aiming, or a silencer that reduces recoil. You can also buy a variety of targets to allow you to practice, which is the surest way to improve your shots.

These are just a few of the many airsoft accessories available. Regardless of your shortcomings, there is sure to be an accessory that will help you overcome and become the hero of the battlefield. Although accessories alone won’t make your game, they can certainly make your game a lot better.
